How Does Invisalign Work? It Will Bring You a New Smile!

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen have given patients all new smiles without the look of metal braces. They’ve grown rapidly in popularity over the years because they’re virtually invisible, and our patients have talked about how much they love the results. But how much do you know about Invisalign? Do you know how Invisalign works? Do you know how long it takes for Invisalign to work?

Ohana Orthodontics is a proud provider of Invisalign clear aligners. We have seen first-hand the amazing results this treatment provides. You probably know how well braces work since they’ve been around for decades. But you may not know as much about Invisalign, which uses newer technology to achieve the same amazing results. Let us show you what Invisalign is and how Invisalign can give you straight teeth.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment involves moving the teeth with clear aligner trays rather than metal brackets and wires. We begin with digital images of your teeth, which are used to create customized acrylic trays that fit perfectly with your teeth.

Invisalign is more than just the trays. It includes a detailed scanning system that maps your mouth and provides a step-by-step treatment plan to give you a beautiful smile in months.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign works similarly to braces but without visible wires and brackets on your teeth. Braces use constant pressure to move your teeth where they need to go, and they do that by applying that pressure to your teeth with brackets, with the archwire pushing against the brackets to create the pressure.

Invisalign figured out a way to do that without wires and brackets in a more comfortable and far less visible way. The Invisalign trays are designed to apply pressure to the entire teeth, moving them into certain positions. After a week or two, the patient changes that set of aligners for the next set in a sequence of Invisalign trays.

Each set of trays is designed to move the teeth a certain way and a certain amount. Once that is achieved, it’s on to the next set of trays, which will move the teeth more. As the sequence of Invisalign progresses, the teeth are straightened and moved into their proper positions.

How Long Does It Take For Invisalign to Work?

One of the great things about the Invisalign process is the treatment time. Unlike braces, which take an average of 12-24 months, Invisalign can give you an amazing smile in as little as six months!

The average treatment time for Invisalign is 9-15 months, but some cases can be treated in a shorter time. It depends on the severity of your dental issues and whether we’re treating more than one issue. For example, gap teeth may not need much treatment time, but gap teeth with an overbite will take a bit longer.

During your free consultation, we will lay out your entire treatment plan. That includes the length of time you will need to wear your Invisalign to achieve the smile of your dreams.

The key to successful Invisalign treatment is total compliance. You must wear your Invisalign at least 22 hours a day for them to be fully effective and for you to meet your treatment deadline. You will remove your Invisalign to eat, drink anything but clear water, floss, and brush your teeth. If you wear your trays 22 hours per day, you’ll have a beautiful new smile in no time!

Will Invisalign Work For Me?

Invisalign doesn’t work for everyone. Those with the most severe cases will do better with braces treatment. However, Invisalign technology has improved and can handle more cases than ever.

Invisalign can treat these dental problems:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gap teeth
  • Crooked (crowded) teeth
  • Open bite

When you come for your first visit, we will thoroughly examine you. That includes dental X-rays and digital scans. We will then determine whether you are a good candidate for treatment with Invisalign or traditional braces.

How Do I Pay for Invisalign?

People think treatment with Invisalign is radically expensive, but it’s not far from the cost of braces treatment. Ohana Orthodontics offers several options to help pay for your Invisalign treatment.

We offer in-house financing interest-free on payments for your treatment, and we offer extended payments if you need them. We accept all major credit cards, and we accept major insurance plans. We will work with you to determine what your insurance plan will cover.

In addition, we offer third-party financing through CareCredit, a special credit card that can be used for healthcare and veterinary services only. If you don’t have CareCredit, we can show you where to apply.

Will I Need Retainers After Invisalign?

Like braces, you must wear retainers once your Invisalign treatment ends. Your teeth will continue moving, which means they will move out of place again unless held in place. That’s why we give you retainers to stop movement.

We offer acrylic clear retainers that are similar to Invisalign. That means you can maintain that low profile with your retainers just as you have with your Invisalign!
