Getting braces or clear aligners for your teeth is a huge step. They will help improve your oral and overall health. But do you know what to expect on your first visit for braces? Do you know how to pay for braces?

First Visit for Braces

You’re probably wondering what to expect with your first visit to Ohana Orthodontics. Do you get braces on the first visit? The answer is no. Your first visit is a consultation and evaluation.

During your first visit, we will thoroughly examine your teeth, including taking digital images and X-rays. We use that information to give you the best treatment options, whether that’s braces, Invisalign, or no treatment at all.

We’ll also give you a rundown of the cost of your treatment and how you can pay for it. We want you to make a fully informed decision about your oral health!

When Do I Get Braces?

You can get braces treatment at almost any age! The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontist evaluate your child by age 7. Your child could be ready for early treatment. Otherwise, we can reevaluate your child once a year to ensure their teeth are coming in properly.

Your child can get braces anytime, and so can you. Braces and Invisalign treatment aren’t limited to children and teenagers. Nearly a third of today’s orthodontic patients are adults! So, no matter what age, we’re ready to treat you with braces or clear aligners.

How Many Visits to Get Braces?

Once you’ve decided on treatment, we will set a follow-up appointment to get your braces or clear aligners. You can get braces or Invisalign during your second visit. Ohana Orthodontics offers two types of braces: traditional metal braces and clear braces.

Those with mild orthodontic cases can opt for Invisalign clear aligners. These are custom-designed just for your teeth. The clear acrylic material makes them nearly invisible. These are great options for those who want a more discreet look, such as our adult patients.

We will get you started in your new braces or Invisalign and send you home with instructions: What to eat and not eat, brushing your teeth with braces, treating discomfort, and whatever else you’d like to know.

Does Insurance Cover Braces?

One of the things we discuss during your first visit is the cost of your treatment and your financing options. We often get questions about paying for braces with insurance.

Ohana Orthodontics accepts major insurance plans, including dental plans that cover orthodontics. Please be aware that most insurance plans do not completely cover the cost of braces or Invisalign. Some only cover a certain dollar amount, while others only cover a certain percentage.

We will work with you and your insurance company to find out how much they will cover.

Can I Use My HSA or FSA Card?

Some high-deductible health insurance plans include a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). These accounts allow you to put in a certain amount each year to pay for things not covered by regular insurance. This can include doctor’s office visits, prescriptions, or medical supplies.

Can you use HSA for braces? Can you use FSA for braces? The answer to both is yes if your insurance plan considers them to be qualified medical expenses. (Most do!)

These accounts also can be used for dental payments, including orthodontic treatment. We will work with you to set up payments from your HSA or FSA account.

How Else Can I Pay for Braces?

What if you have no dental insurance? Can you still pay for braces? You can with Ohana Orthodontics! We offer several financing options to help you pay for your braces treatment or Invisalign treatment.

In-House Financing

Ohana Orthodontics offers no-interest, in-house financing for our treatment plans. That way, you can make monthly payments. We also offer extended payment plans that go beyond the time you’re wearing braces. We do this because we want you to stay within your budget while caring for your oral health.

Major Credit Cards

Ohana Orthodontics accepts all major credit cards, so you can pay the total cost using your credit card and make payments to it instead. Just remember, you’ll have to contend with interest rates, something you won’t have to worry about with our in-house financing.

Third-Party Financing

Ohana Orthodontics offers third-party financing through CareCredit. This special credit card covers health-related expenses not covered by insurance. However, it is a credit line, not a savings account like HSA or FSA. Ask us for information about how to apply!
